Racking, BOS, and Wiring

Balance of system (BOS) refers to everything in the PV system other than the modules themselves: wiring, racking, combiners, disconnects, grounding hardware, conduit, labels, and more.

Racking basics

• Provides structural attachment to roof/ground structure
• Manages module spacing, expansion, and loading
• Requires correct hardware and torque practices

Wiring basics

• Conductors must be routed and protected appropriately
• Connections must be correctly made and strain-relieved
• Good wire management reduces damage and troubleshooting later
