SMRP requires that candidates have at least 3 years of maintenance and reliability work experience in at least 2 of the 5 CMRP pillars, or 2 years of experience plus a relevant degree. There is no required training course — but candidates should have hands-on experience with maintenance planning, reliability tools (RCM, FMEA, vibration analysis), and maintenance metrics. The exam has 110 multiple-choice questions completed in 2.5 hours at Pearson VUE. Candidates with strong backgrounds in manufacturing or utilities pass at the highest rates.
